Sharing & Social Media.
You need to speak to your photographer about how they and you can share your images.
The normal situation which will be explained in your contract is that the photographer holds the copyright to the digital negatives and produces high quality JPG images with limited copyright to the client to use for personal use. i.e distribution to family and friends and use on social media.
Basically that means you can do what you like with the pictures, they are your pictures.
The only caveat is that you can't use them for business purposes, ie. make money from them.
I often place images of the day onto Facebook and Instagram during the actual wedding day, just so your friends and family can share and like them. They may not be fully edited but this is often very popular.
I may over the following few days as I'm editing post other pictures on social media and the couple will be tagged along with the venue.
This is good as it gives you a taste of how good the pictures will be when you get them.
Marketing,Promotion, Advertising and Reviews.
A lot of Wedding Photographers work comes from word of mouth and social media, so it's very important that we share photographs to show potential customers what we can do. If you specifically don't
want your photos shared on Social media then you must tell you photographer BEFORE booking as this may be a contractual requirement.
Reviews are also vitally important to photographers, we use Facebook and Google to advertise so a good review can make a great difference..
If you have any issue with your photographer then PLEASE talk to them before leaving a bad review, I know photographers who have hundreds of great reviews and then a misunderstanding from one client and they get left a bad review. These reviews affect our livelihood that puts food on the table for our family. Leaving a bad review for Amazon has little effect on a multi national company but for a local photographer its massive.
You may be asked by your photographer to leave a review, if you are then please take the time to do so it will be very much appreciated.
I hope this guide has been helpful, If you have any questions please feel free to ask. You can contact me via the contact me page.
I look forward to hearing from you.
